Lucknow: The sub inspector, who was manhandled and attacked by a group of advocates on Wednesday during the latter’s protest at Swasthya Bhawan, lodged a case against the unidentified advocates at Wazirganj police station on Friday.
The complainant Awdhesh Kumar of Ballia district said he was posted in Lakhimpur Kheri and had visited the city on the fateful day for official work.
He said that a group of advocates, who numbered around 15-20, surrounded him and started bullying him. He said that he pleaded the irate group of advocates to spare him as he was on official work and struck a brotherhood chord to draw sympathy by saying his brother was an advocate, but they did not relent.
“They started beating me and pushed me down on the ground and pushed down my bike while beating me with sticks and kicking me. I saved myself somehow and ran to the police pocket close to the venue. I sought permission from officials and reached the police station to lodge a case,” he said.
Additional DCP, west zone, CN Sinha, said that an FIR under the charges of IPC 147 (rioting), IPC 149 (rioting with weapons), IPC 341 (wrongful restrain), IPC 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to public servant on duty), and others against unidentified lawyers has been lodged.
“We will be scanning the CCTV footage and then initiate action,” said the officer.
