Lucknow: Sunday’s show of selling tomatoes under security cover of bouncers staged by a Samajwadi Party leader Ajay Fauzi caused deep trouble for a vegetable vendor and his son as they were arrested by Lanka police and sent to jail while Fauzi is absconding.
SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav, who had initially made a jibe through his tweet that tomatoes should be sold in Z Plus security, condemned the police action against the vegetable vendor in another tweet and demanded his release.
Regarding Sunday’s tomato episode, ACP Bhelupur Pravin Kumar Singh, on Monday, said that an FIR against Ajay Fauzi, vegetable vendor Jagnarain Yadav, his son Vikas Yadav and other unidentified persons had been lodged under section 295A (malicious acts intended to outrage feelings), 153A (promoting enmity), and 505(2) (promoting enmity between classes). Jagnarain and Vikas had been arrested while Fauzi was absconding, said Singh adding that the teams had been engaged to nab Fauzi.
On Sunday, a video of Fauzi selling tomatoes under the security of bouncers, had gone viral on social media after which the men in khaki swung into action. They took vegetable vendor Jagnarain and Vikas to Lanka police station on Sunday night. On being interrogated they revealed that Fauzi had managed the show at their shop.
