Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Minority Commission has sought a detailed action-taken report from Muzaffarnagar district magistrate (DM) and senior superintendent of police (SSP) regarding the incident in which a student was slapped by his classmates on the instruction of their teacher, who also allegedly made pejorative remarks on his religion.
The report should include the action taken against the accused teacher, the status of the FIR registered in the matter and compensation, if any, paid to the aggrieved family, and accreditation status of the private school.
The report should also have information regarding the number of teachers, their educational credentials and breakdown of the fee structure. The commission has also asked for testimonies from the victim’s parents, school principal and other staff.
The boy’s family claimed that he was beaten up in class over a mistake while doing multiplication tables.
A video of the incident was widely circulated on social media on August 25, leading to calls for action against the teacher and the school. Police on Saturday registered a case against the accused teacher, Tripta Tyagi, under sections 504 (insulting someone intentionally to provoke them) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC.
Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) and the accused teacher have been summoned to appear before the commission on September 6, said the chairman of the commission Ashfaq Saifi. “We’re also gathering data on the school’s accreditation and managerial practices,” added Saifi.
BSA Shubham Shukla said, “We’re in the process of revoking the school’s accreditation, which generally takes a month. The school has been officially notified, and their response is awaited.”
Meanwhile, Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind, extended support to the boy’s family and got him admitted to another school, 5km away, on Monday.
