This by-election, scheduled for September 15, became necessary following the unfortunate passing of the incumbent MP, Hardwar Dubey, who was also a member of the BJP. The term for this Rajya Sabha seat extends until November 2026.
Dinesh Sharma is expected to secure a comfortable victory in the by-election due to the BJP’s significant majority in the state assembly. Similar to his predecessor Dubey, Sharma also hails from the Brahmin community.
Sharma had previously served as one of the two Deputy Chief Ministers during the first term of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government from 2017 to 2022.
