The Congress party may once again nominate Pradesh Adhyaksh (State President) Ajay Rai as its candidate from the Varanasi constituency. Rai has contested the last two Lok Sabha elections. There is discussion within the party that senior leader and former MP Rajesh Mishra could also be considered for this seat. The Samajwadi Party has already declared its candidate for the Varanasi seat. Under the alliance, this seat is now in the Congress’ court.
