CM Yogi Expresses Grief, Directs Officials To Ensure Best Possible Treatment For The Injured
Lucknow: Three persons were killed and 10 others injured after a three-storey building in the Fatehpur town of Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh collapsed on Monday. One person was still feared trapped under the debris. Two units of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed to the spot to carry out relief and rescue operations.
The deceased have been identified as Roshni Bano (22), Hakimuddin (28), and Mohammed Danish (14).
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured. He instructed the Barabanki DM and police chief to immediately take the injured to the hospital, provide them proper treatment and visit the spot to oversee the rescue operations. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The incident occurred around 3.15 am and it was reported that 15 people were trapped under the rubble.
In initial operations, 12 people were rescued and admitted to the Barabanki district hospital. Two of them died during treatment while eight others were referred to the King George Medical University in Lucknow for better treatment, according to police. The third death in the incident was recorded when the rescue team recovered the body of another man.
The owner of the building has been identified as Mohammed Hashim who lived there with his family members, Barabanki superintendent of police (SP) Dinesh Kumar Singh said.
“He had purchased a 1220 square feet plot from his next-door neighbour Mohammed Islahuddin in 1995 and constructed the three-storey building in 1999,” the officer said.
The ground floor of the building housed an e-rickshaw battery charging and repair workshop, while the first floor was used for selling electronic goods. The upper floors were used for residential purposes.
The SP said that around 3 am, locals heard a loud explosion and the building collapsed within seconds. The locals then informed the police and fire department.
“The fire department, police, and SDRF teams carried out search and rescue operations, in which 12 people were rescued in the first phase and taken to hospital. The doctors there declared Roshni and Hakimuddin dead. Eight others were referred to the KGMU Trauma Centre in Lucknow and two were sent to a local CHC. In the evening, the body of Danish was recovered from the rubble,” the officer said.
The SP said one of the batteries on the ground floor could have exploded, triggering the collapse of the building. The other possible causes of the collapse are being investigated, he added.
