Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his pride in the prospect of a country like India attaining permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Speaking at a media briefing in New Delhi on September 10, Erdogan emphasized the need for inclusivity in the Security Council, advocating for opportunities for all non-P5 (non-permanent) members to serve through rotational representation. In reference to the P5, which comprises China, France, Russia, the UK, and the US as permanent members of the Security Council, Erdogan emphasized that the world extends beyond these five nations. He stated, “We would take pride in India’s accession to permanent membership in the UN Security Council. The world, as you know, is more expansive and diverse than just these five nations.” Erdogan underscored the importance of broadening Security Council membership beyond the existing P5 nations, stating, “Our intent is to ensure that the Security Council is not solely composed of the US, the UK, France, China, and Russia.”
