Two cops suspended for thrashing youth

Lucknow: Head constable Gajendra Singh and constable Anmol Mishra of Manikpur police station were on Wednesday suspended for allegedly torturing a civil service aspirant for objecting to their ill treatment of a cab driver stuck in a traffic jam at Barabirwa intersection in Alambagh.

The suspension was ordered by deputy commissioner of police, west zone, Rahul Raj.

The incident took place around 11 pm on Tuesday when a wrongly parked cab led to a traffic jam near Barabirwa intersection.

“Three policemen who arrived at the spot to clear the jam started banging the doors of the wrongly parked vehicle when its driver, who was sleeping inside, failed to respond. When the driver woke up, the cops started scolding him, to which a passer-by Vineet Singh objected,” said the police based on the complaint of the victim.

The cops, who did not like the intervention, took Vineet to a nearby police outpost, thrashed him and threatened to book him in an NDPS case.

“I kept on pleading that I was a civil servant aspirant and had no ill-intention to stop cops from carrying on their duty. Luckily, I managed to call an acquaintance, who is an IPS officer in Madhya Pradesh,” said Vineet, who was going to board a bus for Delhi when the incident took place.

“After a call to the IPS officer, the behavior of cops changed. They helped me board an AC bus to Delhi but since I was feeling unwell, I went to a hospital for primary treatment and later met senior police officers to apprise them about my ordeal,” Vineet said.

DCP Raj said that based on prima facie facts, two cops in question have been suspended, and the role of another is under scanner. “Assistant commissioner of police, Krishnanagar, Anup Kumar Singh has been asked to conduct a probe and give a report based on which action will be taken further,” said the DCP.
