Lucknow: A Class XII pass out man impersonating himself as an IPS officer (ADG Zone Lucknow) and his brother were arrested by a team of Chinhat police when they were moving on a blue beacon fitted SUV in the area on Tuesday night.
Those arrested were identified as Shailendra Kumar (31) and his brother Ravindra Kumar (34), both of Aashiana.
The police recovered the SUV fitted with blue beacon and police embossed on front and rear windscreen, another SUV fitted with a flag of BJP and Vidhayak embossed on the rear windscreen, six mobile phones with CUG serious and showing the name as ADG Zone Lucknow on Truecaller aap, a p cap, a beret cap, Rs 80,000 in cash and other items including walkie-talkie sets.
Additional DCP, East Zone, Syed Ali Abbas, said that they confessed to their crime and Shailendra disclosed that he used to take the public in their awe by posing themselves as police officer of IPS rank while his brother helped in the crime. He said he showed the farmers the fake currencies which were also recovered from him to win their confidence and dupe them.
“He said he and his brother dealt in real estate business and their work was to trap the farmers. The younger of the miscreant used to present his brother as IPS officer at the time of meeting with the farmers and this way they won the confidence of the farmers to dupe them,” said ADCP Abbas.
He said he used the blue beacon and another SUV fitted with a BJP’s flag to avoid paying at toll plazas and influencing the people.
The police said both were arrested from Ahimamau locality in the Sultanpur road.
“We were tipped off about the miscreants to whom we were hunting for last few days. On Tuesday night, the team was tipped off that the miscreants were moving in a SUV fitted with a blue beacon and going towards the Sultanpur road. A team conducted the raid and intercepted the vehicle and nabbed the miscreants,” DCP East Hridesh Kumar said.
He said the miscreants had duped several persons in the past and the police were collecting the details of the persons who fell to their trap.
