UP ATS arrests couple after mobile scrutiny shows links with naxals

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad arrested one Brijesh Kushwaha and his wife Prabha from Chhattisgarh for allegedly supporting naxal activities and setting up a naxal movement in the state.

Additional DG, ATS, Mohit Agarwal, said that Brijesh (43) was arrested from Deoria and his wife Prabha (38) from Raipur.

“We made their arrest after an FSL report of the mobile phones recovered from them showed that they were in touch with PLGA (People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army), proscribed group Community Party of India (Maoist) and several other naxal outfits.

Earlier, a raid was conducted by ATS in July 2019 in Kushinagar, Deoria, Kanpur and MP’s Bhopal districts.

A group of seven persons were held including one Manish and his wife Varsha, but others which included Brijesh and Prabha were let off as the agency had no evidence against them.

“However, their phones were seized and sent to FSL for data extraction,” said ADG Agarwal.

Later, an FSL report revealed that Brijesh and Prabha were in contact with proscribed naxal groups including PLGA and were working for the recruitment of youths, their group’s expansion and conspiring to spread unrest in the country.

ATS said that a transit remand of Prabha was taken from Raipur court and she was being brought to ATS headquarters in Lucknow.

ATS said that Brijesh is MA in Sanskrit and used to teach in Gorakhpur. He is also a member of Inquilabi Chhatra Sabha.

In 2006, he visited Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh for work and met Prabha who was a member of Mazdoor Kisan Ekta Manch and Savitribai Phule Sangharsh Samiti. These two organisations are affiliated to CPI (Maoist). Thereafter, the two married in 2010 and started working for recruitment of youths for their organisation.
