
Lucknow: A 25-year-old constable of the Uttar Pradesh police was killed after a speeding UP roadways bus hit his bike and dragged him for nearly 20 meters on National Highway 58 in Meerut under Pallavpuram police limits on Sunday morning.
The victim, identified as Dharmendra Yadav, was a resident of Aligarh and was posted at Pallavpuram police station. He was on duty and was heading towards the SSP office carrying official documents when the accident happened. He was the sole breadwinner of his family and is survived by his father, mother, and two brothers.
The accused bus driver fled the spot after the accident.
The SHO of Pallavpuram, Rajesh Kamboj, said that the body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem. The unidentified bus driver has been booked under IPC section 304A (causing death by negligence). He is currently on the run and efforts are on to nab him. The bus has been seized.
KK Sharma, regional manager of roadways, Meerut, said that the department will provide compensation to the deceased’s family as per the provisions. Additionally, they will assess the incident to implement measures to prevent such mishaps in future.
