
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad claimed to have arrested a self-radicalised terror suspect owing allegiance to ISIS on Friday. The accused was identified as Mohammed Tariq Ather (21). He was summoned from Gorakhpur by ATS due to involvement in suspicious activities to ATS Lucknow headquarters.
During interrogation, the accused Ather stated that he was inspired by Ibrahim Awad Ibrahim al-Badri, and wanted to spread Jihad in India and establish rule of Sharia, said the ATS. ATS claimed that the accused had also taken oath to become a member of ISIS.
Additional DG, ATS, Naveen Arora, said that the accused was spreading Jihad through Telegram app in youngsters.
“The accused has confessed to have brainwashed youths through social media in anti-India activities and establish an Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) like module in India,” said the ATS.
Arora said that the accused was booked under the charges of IPC 123 (waging war), Sections of punishment for unlawful activities, offence relating to membership of a terrorist organisation under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967.
On the other hand, ATS had got 14 days police custody remand of terror suspects Saddam Sheikh (38) and Rizwan Khan (23) owing allegiance to Al Qaeda. They were arrested on July 2. While, ATS got ten days remand of Muneer a members of banned outfit PFI, who was also arrested on July 2.
