Uttar Pradesh: Improper Use of Government Textbooks, Being Sold in Scrap Shops in Lakhimpur Kheri

In Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, government textbooks are being sold as scrap in junk shops. A truck loaded with books was seen leaving a scrap shop, prompting a viral video. Numerous scrap shops on Pateehan Road in Palia Kasba of Lakhimpur Kheri were involved. The incident raised concerns as government textbooks for the 2023-24 academic session were found. The origin and extent of the sold books, including those mistakenly scrapped, are being investigated. While the government emphasizes sending children to public schools with free books, the situation in Lakhimpur Kheri highlights a contradiction, as those same government books meant for children are being spotted in scrap shops.
