On April 4, 1999, the murders of Suryanarayan alias Vakil Shukla, Deveshankar Dubey, and Sheshmani Dubey took place at the Gopiganj-Mirzapur intersection. In connection with this case, a case was filed against five people, including former MLA Udaybhan Singh alias Doctor, from Aurai.
