Lucknow: A local goon and his aides beat up a street food vendor to death for refusing to give them paani puri for free, in the Chakeri area of Kanpur on Sunday evening.
Prem Chandra (40), a resident of Kanpur Dehat, was returning home when Dheeraj and his four aides stopped him and asked for paani puris for free.
When Prem refused, the goon and his aides first abused him and then started thrashing him, before locals intervened and rescued him. However, at night, Prem’s condition deteriorated and his family took him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Inspector Ashok Kumar Dubey of Chakeri police station said the incident was being investigated. “No external injury marks were found on him. The body has been sent for postmortem examination,” he said, adding that action would be taken on the basis of autopsy report and other necessary findings.
