
Lucknow: A woman and her family members were booked for abetment to suicide on Saturday. A 22-year-old competitive exam aspirant Abhishek Verma, who had ended his life on May 14 allegedly due to murder threat by the woman’s family members in Ambedkarpuram in Kalyanpur area of the city.
Abhishek’s father Ramchandra Verma, a resident of Ambedkarpuram stated in his complaint that his son was good at studies and was preparing for competitive exams. “He had befriended a girl named Sneha, and both wanted to marry in court with mutual consent,” he stated in the complaint.
However, on knowing about their affair, Sneha’s parents, brother and brother-in-law assaulted Abhishek and threatened to kill him and pressured him to take back his decision of marriage, he said.
Peeved over this, Abhishek committed suicide on the night of May 14 by making a video call to his girlfriend, he said.
“Sneha’s family members were also watching this video but they did not give any information to the police or to him”, said Abhishek’s father.
Inspector Kalyanpur police station said that a probe is underway, and all the aspects of the case will be looked into.
“An FIR has been registered on the complaint of the victim’s father,” he said.
