Woman jumps to death into well with sons

Lucknow: A 36-year-old woman Firdaus, along with her three sons, Akram (5), Arham (3) and another who was 15 months old, jumped into a well in Sant Kabir Nagar. Akram was rescued, while the rest drowned dead, said police, adding that the woman had been going treatment for depression. Akram was undergoing treatment at KGMU in Lucknow and his condition was stated to be critical.

SHO, Dudhara, Chandan Kumar, said Firdaus was at her maternal home at the time of the incident while her husband Faiz was at home. Her father Mahroof said locals informed him that his daughter had jumped into the well.

“Villagers flocked around the well and started rescue operations,” said Kumar. They also informed the police and called for an ambulance. Two villagers dived into the well to fish out the family but in vain.

“The infant died as soon he was brought out, while Firdaus and Arham died while being taken to the local CHC,” added SHO Kumar. Akram was referred to Lucknow.

Kumar said that during interrogation, Mahroof said his daughter was being treated for mental illness. “We had taken her to several doctors but she did not show any sign of improvement,” he told police.
