3 arrested for tricking woman into marriage, embrace Islam: Noida

Lucknow: Three persons were arrested under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act for allegedly trying to convert a 25-year-old woman to Islam in Khoda.

A complaint was filed by the woman’s family on July 7 against one of her colleagues, Mohd Rahil alias Rahul Agarwal, at a call centre in Noida’s Sector 60 for allegedly trying to convert her.

The complainant claimed that the woman belonged to a Hindu family but had recently started offering namaz and adopted other Islamic practices.

Police said they have arrested Mohd Rahil and two others—Mohd Musheer and Abdullah Ahmed alias Saurabh Khurana—who were allegedly running a syndicate to convert young men and women into Islam.

Rahil and Musheer are residents of Delhi’s Sangam Vihar, while Ahmed belongs to Palwal in Haryana, cops said.

“Rahil had met the woman in July 2022 at the call centre and befriended her. He gradually tried to draw the woman into Islam by discussing it and providing her with some online materials to read. In March, Rahil allegedly convinced the woman to marry him and on April 6, the two got married over the phone as per Islamic customs.

This was Rahil’s second marriage, but he had hidden information about his previous wife from the complainant’s daughter. We have found the accused had started getting close to another colleague at the call centre using similar tactics,” the DCP said.

Police sources said he had a physical relationship with the woman and even saved some compromising photographs and videos of her on his phone. said.

The DCP added that Rahil joined Musheer’s coaching institute in Delhi in 2017 when he was in class 12.

“It was during this period that Musheer had initiated the process of brain- washing young boys. He converted Rahil, then Rahul Agarwal, within a year,” Yadav said.
