
Kaushambi, Aug 10 (IANS) One person was killed, and over two dozen were injured after a pickup truck carrying devotees overturned in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district on Monday morning, officials said.
The accident occurred when a speeding pickup truck carrying a group of devotees to River Ganga lost control and overturned on the Malaka Highway in the Kokhraj police station area, officials said.
One person died at the spot following the accident, while nearly 30 others were injured. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition and are currently undergoing treatment at the medical college.
As soon as information about the accident reached the police, Station House Officer Santosh Sharma, accompanied by his police team, immediately reached the spot and initiated rescue operations.
The police personnel acted swiftly to evacuate the injured and transport them to the hospital. In a prompt response, the SHO used his official government vehicle to take the injured to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
The injured devotees were subsequently admitted to the medical college, where doctors are providing treatment. The condition of several injured persons remains serious, according to officials.
Speaking to reporters, District Magistrate Amit Kumar Pal said, “Thirty people have been injured in this incident. As soon as we received the information, ambulances were dispatched, and the injured were immediately transported to the hospital.”
Residents and relatives of the victims appreciated the prompt response of the Kokhraj police and particularly praised Station House Officer Santosh Sharma for taking immediate action and personally helping transport the injured to the hospital.
Police personnel also carried out the necessary rescue and relief measures at the accident site and ensured that the injured were shifted for treatment without unnecessary delay.
Meanwhile, the police have sent the body of the deceased for post-mortem examination.
Further legal proceedings have also been initiated in connection with the accident.
