New Delhi: Amitabh Bachchan achieved stardom in the 1970s with the image of an angry young man, but the way actors are praised today, at that time the media completely ignored Amitabh Bachchan. According to media reports, Amitabh Bachchan had revealed in a 2017 blog that the film media had banned him because it was believed that he was responsible for the media ban during the Emergency.

When Amitabh Bachchan’s films were becoming superhit one after the other, the media refused to take his photo and publish his interview. Big B had told that when he used to reach any premiere or function, the photographers used to put down their cameras. The actor had also banned the entry of the media on the sets of his films.

Amitabh wrote in the blog, ‘Nothing was printed or written about me. There was no coverage on my work and films. No photos were taken, if I attended a function, the photographers would put their cameras on the dais. They protest and never take a picture.

When the media banned him, his biggest hit ‘Deewar’ was released, but the Best Actor trophy was given to Sanjeev Kumar for the film ‘Aandhi’. Not only this, Amitabh Bachchan was invited on the stage to present the award to his rival. Big B told, ‘When many commentators and opposing media were talking to me at that time, they told that this was done deliberately, so that you could be humiliated.

Amitabh Bachchan still gave the award to Sanjeev Kumar as he respected the actor a lot and said, ‘If Dilip Kumar doesn’t get the award for ‘Ganga Jamuna’, which in my opinion was his most brilliant performance, then who am I? Am I the radish of the field?’ According to Big B, the media banned him for almost 15 years, but the ban was lifted after the fatal accident on the sets of ‘Coolie’.

After Amitabh Bachchan’s accident, a famous magazine published an article on him, which left the actor shocked. When he recovered from his wounds, he went to meet the editor of the magazine and asked why he had published a sympathetic article on him. Amitabh Bachchan became emotional due to the answer given by the editor. The editor had told him, ‘We were angry with you for what you had done to the media and we wanted you to fail, but did not want you to die. That’s why we published this article after your recovery. Those were very emotional moments and then after that everything was back to normal. Please tell that 80-year-old Amitabh Bachchan will next be seen in the film ‘Project K’.
