Lucknow: As many as 10 weather-related deaths were recorded in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, a state government bulletin said on Saturday taking the toll to about 50 since July 1.
While seven were killed in lightning strikes, two got drowned and one was killed in snake bite case.
The state received 10.2mm rain in the last 24 hours while from June 1 it has received 246.7 mm rainfall which is 12% more than normal. As many as 18 districts have recorded over 60% rain while 14 have recorded 20% rainfall. About 20 districts have recorded normal rain and 21 less than 20% rainfall.
Relief commissioner GS Navin Kumar said Ganga and Yamuna were flowing above the danger mark with 304 villages in 11 districts affected by floods.
Maximum 108 affected villages were in Muzaffarnagar, 80 in Saharanpur, 25 in Shamli, 19 in Bijnor, 11 in Baghpat and 10 in Aligarh.
Kumar said Varanasi, Bahraich, Kushinagar, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Badaun, Barabanki and Shrawasti recorded 30 mm or more rain during the last 24 hours.
As per officials, 19,365 people have been affected by floods. Four companies of NDRF, three companies of SDRF and six companies of PAC have been deployed in these areas.
“Currently all embankments are safe. Till now, 2,450 dry ration kits and 37,182 lunch packets have been distributed. So far 679 flood relief camps and nine animal rescue camps have been set up,” he said.
Meanwhile, Gautam Budh Nagar DM said teams from UP rescued over 100 people of Faridabad district in Haryana as it was close to UP’s Jewar. Those rescued were being kept in flood relief camps.
