Two booked for bid to convert Kushinagar villagers to Christianity

Lucknow: Kushinagar police booked two persons, identified as Ravi Kumar and Jokhu Prasad, on charges of forcing gullible individuals to adopt Christianity.

The two had organised a prayer meeting at the house of a widow Poonam Madhesia where they allegedly forced and coerced innocent villagers to embrace Christianity.

SHO, Hata, Pradeep Kumar, said that one Jokhu and Ravi were organizing a prayer at the residence of a widow Poonam Devi in Sukrauli in Hata police station area on August 21, evening.

“Over a dozen villagers were participating in the prayers wherein the villagers were allured with money and marriage. They were being given religious sermons along with booklets and pamphlets while persuading them to convert,” said the police.

The information was given by one Suresh Gupta to UP 112. A police team immediately reached the house of the woman and spotted the villagers praying.

SHO Pradeep said that police lodged an FIR against Jokhu and Ravi under the charges of UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.
