controversial IPL chairperson Lalit Modi and meat exporter Moin Qureshi, who is under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), at the wedding of senior advocate Harish Salve in London on Sunday (September 3). Supriya Shrinate, Congress spokesperson and chairperson of social media and digital platforms, expressed her dismay on X, lambasting the prominent lawyer for socializing with Lalit Modi and Moin Qureshi. She posted a scathing critique, saying, “A close friend of multiple fugitives evading the law in our country cannot possibly be determining the fate of our democracy. Stop making a mockery of this nation.”
Shrinate continued her criticism on X, stating, “It is an absolute outrage that a person who has just been appointed by the government to a legally, electorally, and constitutionally sensitive and critical position, one that will advise/decide on matters related to Indian democracy and its future, is seen at his very private wedding festivities dining with and being celebrated by alleged fugitives from Indian law – Lalit Modi and Moin Qureshi.”
Lalit Modi, known for his role as the IPL commissioner when the tournament was inaugurated in 2008, has faced allegations of financial mismanagement and is a fugitive from Indian authorities.
Moin Qureshi, a meat exporter and business tycoon from Kanpur, has been under investigation by the Income Tax Department since 2011 and has been a controversial figure.
Harish Salve, the senior advocate in question, has been appointed to an eight-member high-level committee recently established by the government. This committee, chaired by former President of India Ram Nath Kovind, is tasked with making recommendations and examining the possibility of holding simultaneous elections in India under the ‘One Nation, One Election’ concept.
