Lucknow, September 5, 2023 (PTI) – Former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Dinesh Sharma, is on the verge of securing a Rajya Sabha seat from the state without any opposition. Sharma, a prominent BJP leader, is the sole candidate to have filed his nomination for the upcoming by-election on September 15.
This by-election became necessary following the unfortunate demise of the incumbent MP, Hardwar Dubey, who was also a member of the BJP. The term for this seat extends until November 2026.
Assistant Returning Officer for the Rajya Sabha poll, Ajit Sharma, confirmed that no other nominations were submitted on the final day. The official scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place on Wednesday, with the formal declaration of the results scheduled for Friday.
