The government has asserted that the removal of additional retaliatory duties on imports of US apples, walnuts, and almonds will not adversely affect domestic producers. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal criticized opposition parties, particularly Congress, for politicizing the issue without a comprehensive understanding of the matter. Currently, there is a standard duty of 50 percent and a minimum import price of Rs 50 per kg on apples.
