Annadata’ is the foundation of Uttar Pradesh’s economic strength and prosperity: CM Yogi

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the unprecedented transformation in Uttar Pradesh’s agricultural sector since 2017, describing farmers, the ‘annadatas’, as the foundation of the state’s economic strength and prosperity.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister wrote that under the able guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state’s double-engine government is ensuring facilities for farmers from seed to market. Before 2017, farmers were trapped in debt, distress and helplessness and were forced to run from pillar to post dealing with middlemen. Today, they are free from debt and benefiting from improved seeds, irrigation facilities, MSP payments through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), and the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme.

The Chief Minister said that irrigation projects pending for decades have been completed. Uttar Pradesh contributes 21 per cent of the country’s total foodgrain production. The state’s agricultural growth rate has increased from 8 per cent to 18 per cent. Uttar Pradesh also ranks first in the country in the production of milk, sugarcane and wheat, among other agricultural commodities.

The Chief Minister said that, in recognition of farmers’ hard work and to ensure fair prices for their produce, more than 519 lakh metric tonnes of paddy were procured from over 80 lakh farmers in Uttar Pradesh between 2017 and March 2026. Payments exceeding ₹1,03,833 crore were made directly to farmers.

Continuing with the same commitment, the MSP for paddy has been increased by ₹71 per quintal this year as well.

Describing farmers as the foundation of Uttar Pradesh’s economic strength and prosperity, the Chief Minister said that protecting their rights and ensuring their prosperity remain the double-engine government’s highest priorities.
