Ashok Leyland Secures Order for 1,282 Buses from Gujarat

Chennai-based commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland has announced a significant order for 1,282 fully built buses from the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC). This order, considered one of the largest from a state transport undertaking for a single original equipment manufacturer (OEM), will further strengthen Ashok Leyland’s dominant position in the Indian bus market.

Under the agreement, Ashok Leyland will deliver 55-seater fully assembled BS VI diesel buses to GSRTC in a phased manner. These buses are renowned for their durability, robustness, and advanced technology, making Ashok Leyland a preferred choice in the bus segment for both government and private customers.

The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has a longstanding association with Ashok Leyland, with more than 2,600 buses from the company already in operation within GSRTC’s fleet. This latest order significantly boosts Ashok Leyland’s order book from State Transport Undertakings to over 4,000 buses.

Ashok Leyland’s Managing Director and CEO, Shenu Agarwal, expressed pride in offering cost-effective solutions and exceptional product experiences, setting high industry standards. The company’s shares rose by 1.6 percent following the announcement, trading at Rs 176.8 at the time of reporting.

This substantial order reaffirms Ashok Leyland’s commitment to delivering high-performance vehicles to its valued partners and customers in the public transportation sector.
