
Lucknow: Three people lost their lives while one was injured in separate incidents of lightning as thunderstorms lashed various parts of west UP on Monday.
Two labourers — Mohammad Kasim, 29, and Mohammad Arshad, 18 — suffered fatal injuries while they were taking shelter under a tree and died on the spot. Both were from Kairana city.
In Nehtaur area of Bijnor, a 40-year-old farmer, Hansraj, was struck by lightning while he was feeding fodder to his livestock. His family members found him lying unconscious in the courtyard. They rushed him to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The deceased is survived by his wife and three children.
The principal of Kisan Inter College Mandawali in Bijnor, Suniti Tyagi, 59, also sustained burn injuries due to lightning while she was giving instructions to students using a loudspeaker. She became unconscious and was admitted to a private hospital. Her condition is stable.
Tehsildar of Kairana, Arjun Chauhan, said, “Revenue officers were sent to inspect the sites. There is a provision for providing Rs 4 lakh compensation for deaths caused by lightning. However, a post-mortem examination is mandatory for this.”
