Lucknow: In a shocking incident, a woman sold her daughter for a sum of Rs 4 lakh to a man in Haryana on the pretext of marriage.
The 18-year-old girl, who was subjected to sexual abuse post her marriage, later managed to escape from her husband’s clutches and returned to Gorakhpur. The girl, hailing from Chiluatal area here, later approached the police with a written complaint against her mother and a family friend on Wednesday evening.
Taking cognizance of the allegation, SP (North) Manoj Avasthi has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and said appropriate action will be taken based on the probe report.
Narrating her ordeal in the complaint, the victim said that she resided in Mahesra area of Chiluatal with her mother in Aasra residence. A woman from the neighbourhood took advantage of their impoverished situation and came to her house with a marriage proposal from Haryana. Her mother later orchestrated her marriage for Rs 4 lakh. Upon reaching Haryana, she was shocked to know the truth. Her ordeal began when her husband abused her physically and forced her into other illicit activities. She made several attempts to contact her mother, but in vain.
Later, she managed to escape from his clutches and returned to her hometown by bus, before seeking help from police for her safety.
