SI posted with Meerut police, tried to extort Rs 1 crore
Lucknow: A naib tehsildar and a sub-inspector with the UP police, along with their relatives have been booked for allegedly cheating and trying to extort money from a businessman.
According to police, Shriram Agrawal, a resident of Sector 75, said that tehsildar Sachin Pawar and sub-inspector Robin Pawar had threatened his family and asked for Rs 1 crore in return.
Agrawal said he owns a garment business and is also a social worker. During the pandemic in 2021, he got in touch with Sachin during a community initiative. They became close associates and started visiting each other often.
The complainant said that he entered into a partnership with Sachin in March this year and opened an online coaching institute — Shikshakul classes pvt ltd — in Sector 65. The official directors of the institute are Shriram Agrawal and Sachin’s wife Garima Chaudhary. However, Sachin was the unofficial partner in the business.
Agrawal claimed that Sachin did not put any money in the coaching centre while the former invested Rs 30 lakh and for some months, paid the teaching staff from his own pocket.
“In July, when the business started making profit, I asked Sachin for some money, following which he transferred Rs 5 lakh from the institute’s bank account. A month later, I went through the company’s documents and found out that I own only 15% of the company’s share while Garima gets 85%,” the complainant told cops. He said they were ideally supposed to be 50-50 partners of the profit.
Agrawal added that when he approached Sachin for clarity, he was met with death threats. Subsequently, he reached out to the police.
On November 17, Garima, her brother Gaurav and Robin purportedly visited Agrawal’s residence in his absence and misbehaved with his family. “They strangled my son and tried to choke him. Garima and Gaurav warned my parents that I should pay Rs 1 crore and leave the partnership in the business else we will be met with dire consequences,” he said.
Based on Shriram’s complaint, an FIR was registered against Robin, Sachin, Garima and their relatives under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Police said one of the accused, Robin Pawar, is currently a sub-inspector with the Meerut police.
“Investigation in the case is underway,” cops said.
