One killed, 14 injured as six vehicles pile up on Agra-Lucknow expressway

Lucknow: One person was killed while 14 others were injured in a multi-vehicle pile-up due to dense fog on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway near Unnao during the early hours of Wednesday.

According to eyewitnesses, a double-decker bus lost control due to poor visibility and crashed into another vehicle after hitting the divider. This led to rear-end crashes resulting in the collision of at least six vehicles.

One passenger, Vijay Kumar (50), died on the spot while 14 others were injured. Six persons, who sustained grievous injuries, were referred to the trauma centre of the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow while the remaining were taken to community health centre for treatment.

Police and personnel of the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) launched a rescue operation and cleared the wreckage.

A massive traffic jam was witnessed on the expressway for hours.

Circle officer, Bangarmau, Vijay Anand said, “The pile-up occurred due to dense fog. All the vehicles were going from Lucknow towards Agra.”
