Lucknow: A 20-year-old Muslim man has been arrested on the charge of kidnapping and raping a 14-year-old girl for two months and trying to forcibly convert her to Islam. The girl alleged that the accused, Danish of Maikupurwa in Kanpur Cantonment area, forced her to consume non-vegetarian food and offer namaz.
Police said the accused befriended the girl on Instagram and later lured her to leave her house and stay with him. She was rescued by members of a Hindu outfit, who came to know about the incident and reached Danish’s house on Friday.
Danish and family managed to escape, but he was arrested later, additional DCP Lakhan Singh said, adding that further investigations were on.
Based on the complaint of the teen’s father, the police have registered a case for kidnapping and rape under relevant sections of IPC, Pocso Act, SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.
The girl told the police that she became friends with Danish a few months ago. On October 22, he lured her to flee home and stay with him. “To impress me, he used to send pictures of bungalows and cars, claiming he owned them. However, when I reached his home, I found it was an old, dilapidated house,” she said.
She alleged that after a few days, Danish started raping her and forcing her to consume non-vegetarian food and offer namaz. When she protested, Danish and her family members thrashed her.
The girl further alleged that she was taken to a mosque and her name was changed to Muskan Khan. Recently, Danish invited a cleric to his house and fixed December 30 as the date of their ‘nikah’, she said.
