Ghaziabad: A parking contractor was arrested for allegedly pushing his wife to death from the third floor of their house in Govindpuram on Friday night.

Vikas Chaudhary lived in Krishna Kunj society with his wife Shalu and three children. The couple, police said, had been married for a decade.

According to police, the couple had a heated argument on Friday night, following which Vikas allegedly pushed her from the balcony. The woman, oozing blood from her injuries, was taken to a hospital by neighbours, but was declared dead on arrival.

Police said Shalu’s cousin Anandpal had lodged a complaint against Vikas, his mother Vimala, brother Akash and his wife Anju.

“The woman’s family members informed police and lodged a complaint against her in-laws. They alleged that the couple had developed strained ties recently. Following the complaint, an FIR for murder was registered at Kavi Nagar police station,” a senior officer said.

While Vikas worked as a contractor, his wife was a homemaker. They had been living in the house for the past decade. “We have initiated an investigation to find out what led to the argument and subsequent murder,” the officer added.

Sources in police said Vikas had come home drunk on Friday night, leading to the argument with Shalu. He even thrashed her in a fit of rage, they added.

Shalu’s family members alleged that Vikas was addicted to drugs, which caused tension in the family. In December last year, a police team from the Pink Booth had mediated between the two after one such spat. Shalu, who had left home, eventually returned after that.
