Lucknow: Bareilly police have successfully cracked the mystery of a double murder within two days, leading to the arrest of the accused on Saturday night. The victims, 43-year-old Meena Devi and her son Netrapal, were found murdered in their plant nursery in the Izzatnagar area on January 26. Initially, Meena’s husband had named one Sanjeev Kumar in the FIR, but investigation revealed that Sanjeev was in Punjab at the time of the crime.

Further inquiry revealed that the murders were committed by Mohd Rashid Shah, the boyfriend of Meena’s daughter. The motive behind the crime stemmed from Meena’s opposition to the relationship, as Rashid, being married and from a different community, faced disapproval.

SHO Izzatnagar Jaishankar Singh said, “On Friday night, Rashid confronted Netrapal and Meena in an attempt to convince them for marriage, which resulted in a heated argument. In a fit of rage, Rashid brutally murdered Netrapal with a hammer. Meena, trying to save her son, met a similar fate at the hands of Rashid. Subsequently, Rashid fled the scene on his bike with the murder weapon. We managed to arrest Rashid as he was attempting to leave Bareilly. We have also recovered his bike and the murder weapon. The forensic experts have been enlisted to conduct a lab test on the collected evidence. Rashid is now facing charges under the section of murder.”

According to the police, Rashid, a married man and father of a 6-month-old girl, admitted to having an affair with the victim’s daughter for the past few years.
