The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved a proposal for the construction of 845 new government residential units for officials of the Allahabad High Court in Prayagraj.
Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said, “533 Type-3 and 312 Type-4 residential units would be constructed for Class-I and Class-II officials of the High Court. The estimated cost of the project is ₹543.4075 crore. The Cabinet is also being approached for approval to release ₹50 crore for the project.”
A total of 2,607 posts for Class-I and Class-II officials are sanctioned in the Allahabad High Court, of which 1,866 are currently occupied. However, only 128 flats or residential units are available for these officials. There has been a need to provide government accommodation to officials working at the High Court.
In view of the shortage of residential facilities, a plan has been drawn up to construct additional housing units.
A total of 845 residential units will be constructed in accordance with prescribed norms on 10.37 acres of land in the Devghat-Jhalwa area of Prayagraj. The project will comprise 533 Type-3 and 312 Type-4 residential units. An initial proposal had estimated the construction cost at ₹560.0420 crore.
At the meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee held on June 30, 2026, a total of ₹543.4075 crore was approved against the proposed project cost. Following consultations with the Finance Department, a proposal has been prepared to grant administrative and financial approval for the same amount for the construction of all 845 residential units during the financial year 2026-27.
A proposal to release ₹50 crore for the construction work has also been placed before the Council of Ministers for approval. The project is expected to expand housing facilities for Allahabad High Court officials and help address the long-standing shortage of residential accommodation.
