
Lucknow, May 9 (IANS) Railway premises in Lucknow witnessed dramatic scenes on May 9 when Pallavi Patel, legislator from Sirathu and leader of Apna Dal (Kamerawadi), led a large protest demanding immediate implementation of the University Grants Commission Equity Regulation 2026.
According to police officers, a case has been registered against Patel at Charbagh Railway Station for leading a protest along with nearly 350 to 400 party workers, both men and women, who gathered in the circulating area carrying party flags, banners and posters while raising slogans.
The protest escalated when Patel and her supporters ran towards platform number one through the escalator passage and entered the railway premises without authorisation.
Police officials said that Patel, along with her supporters, descended onto the railway tracks between platforms one and two and climbed onto an inspection vehicle stationed on the railway line. From there, she continued to lead slogans, disrupting within the railway zone.
Inspector Bhupendra Singh, accompanied by Government Railway Police and civil police personnel, including Sub-Inspectors Ramesh Kumar Rawat, Balram Meena, Radheyshyam Tripathi and several constables, attempted to control the situation.
After nearly 10 minutes of confrontation, the police managed to escort Patel and her supporters out of the station at around 1.25 p.m.
Officials further said that the actions of Patel and her party workers amounted to unauthorised entry into railway premises and the creation of a nuisance, which are punishable under Sections 147, 145 and 156 of the Railway Act.
They further stated that arrests could not be made at the spot due to the volatile circumstances and the priority of maintaining law and order.
A case has been registered against Patel and other unidentified party workers, and further investigations are underway.
Information has been sent to senior officers, and the matter has been forwarded to the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Railway Court, Lucknow, for judicial proceedings.
