Ayodhya to be illuminated with over 3 million diyas as Yogi govt prepares for a new record

Preparations are gaining momentum to give Deepotsav 2026 in Ram Nagari Ayodhya a grand and historic scale. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the target this year is to arrange over 3 million diyas. More than 35,000 volunteers from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University will contribute to the successful conduct of the event. As part of the preparations, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr Bijendra Singh, performed rituals and offered prayers to Maa Saryu and Lord Shri Ram at Ram Ki Paidi as the chief host, seeking the smooth and uninterrupted conduct of Deepotsav.

At the Saryu Temple located at Ram Ki Paidi, priest Pandit Netraja Mishra conducted the rituals in accordance with Vedic traditions and amid the chanting of Vedic mantras.

Prayers were offered for the successful and auspicious conduct of Deepotsav. The Saryu Puja reflected the atmosphere of faith and enthusiasm surrounding preparations for the festival in Ram Nagari.

After the prayers, Vice-Chancellor Dr Bijendra Singh said, “Deepotsav is a grand celebration of the splendour of Sanatan culture, the faith of the people and collective dedication. With the blessings of Lord Shri Ram and the tireless efforts of volunteers, Ayodhya will once again establish a new record on the global stage.”

“Following the consecration ceremony at the grand Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple, Ayodhya’s Deepotsav has drawn the attention of people across India and around the world. This historic religious celebration offers an opportunity to showcase the spiritual dignity and energy of Ram Nagari to the world. Every diya lit by a volunteer symbolises faith and a commitment to patriotism,” he added.

The university and district administrations are making extensive preparations to ensure that Deepotsav is conducted in an organised and disciplined manner. Volunteers are receiving special training across various faculties and departments on the university campus.

The training covers arranging diyas according to designated grids, managing oil and wicks, and completing tasks within the stipulated time.

Emphasis is also being placed on ensuring arrangements meet Guinness World Records standards so that no obstacles arise in achieving the target during Deepotsav.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Bijendra Singh said, “Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the target has been set at over 3 million diyas this year. The university administration and Deepotsav committees are finalising arrangements for marking the ghats, allocating diyas and ensuring the supply of oil.”

More than 35,000 volunteers from the university’s residential campus, affiliated colleges, intermediate colleges and various voluntary organisations will participate in the grand event.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence that collective efforts would enable Avadh University to surpass its previous record and establish a new milestone. Through the dazzling illumination of millions of diyas, Ayodhya’s cultural heritage, spiritual identity and the grandeur of Sanatan traditions will once again be showcased to the world.
