Deepotsav-2026 in Ayodhya will take on a distinctly Gen Z avatar this year. Alongside the traditional glow of earthen lamps, a blend of modern technology will create a spectacular visual experience along the banks of the Saryu, designed to attract young people. During Deepotsav, Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department will organize live performances by more than 100 artists, along with multimedia projection and laser shows. The grand event, scheduled for November 7 at Ram Ki Paidi, will combine the radiance of earthen lamps with artificial lighting, technology, and cultural performances to offer visitors a special experience.
Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said the city of Lord Ram, which glows with traditional earthen lamps during Deepotsav, will also witness a remarkable confluence of technology and art. “Special performances during the festival have been designed particularly with Gen Z in mind. The story of Lord Shri Ram’s return to Ayodhya will come to life through projection mapping, lasers, aerial acts, and artists’ performances. In the grand show lasting approximately 28 minutes, episodes from the Ramayana will be presented before devotees of Lord Ram through a combination of Indian traditions, modern technology and stage performances.”
During Deepotsav-2026, multimedia projection and laser shows will remain the city’s main attraction from November 5 to 9. The program will begin with two trial shows on November 5, followed by a full dress rehearsal on November 6. On November 7, a special presentation will be organized before CM Yogi Adityanath on the evening of Deepotsav. In addition, three extra shows will also be organized for the general public. On November 8, the day of Diwali, four shows will be held, although these will not include dance performances. With Ayodhya residents in mind, a special drone show will be organized on November 9.
Multimedia projection and laser shows have also been major attractions during Deepotsav in previous years. This time, the Tourism Department has emphasized introducing novelty in the presentation, keeping Gen Z’s interests in mind. Instead of repeating the visuals, music, storyboards and animations from previous events, preparations are underway to connect young tourists with the faith associated with Lord Shri Ram and Ayodhya’s heritage through fresh content.
A floating stage is being prepared amid the water at Ram Ki Paidi. Artists’ performances, along with technological effects, will be showcased on this stage. The show will feature 2D, 3D, and human-based aerial acts, along with live and moving props. The team will pay special attention to safety standards throughout the arrangements.
More than 100 Indian folk and classical artists will perform at the main event on November 7 (Deepotsav-2026). All artists’ costumes will reflect Deepotsav’s cultural theme. Through coordinated storytelling, dance, music, voice-over, and lighting effects, the story of Shri Ram’s arrival in Ayodhya will be presented sequentially. The Hindi script will be brought to life in a theatrical format under the direction of a renowned or National Award-winning creative director or scriptwriter.
Gen Z’s connection with technology is well known. Keeping this in mind, preparations are underway to showcase five 3D scenes from the Ramayana on mobile phones. Overall, visitors to Deepotsav will also get to experience Augmented Reality (AR). An iOS and Android app will be developed for Ram Ki Paidi area. When visitors scan designated locations using their mobile phones, five 3D scenes from the Ramayana will appear in the real-world surroundings. Visitors can also record these visuals and share them on social media. The app will integrate geo-fencing technology. This facility will function only within the Ram Ki Paidi area.
In addition to the main presentation, an eight-minute laser show will also be organized. It will combine visuals, music and voice-over based on the themes of Diwali and Shri Ram’s arrival in Ayodhya. A high-quality sound system is being arranged, keeping in mind the presence of thousands of spectators. Outdoor LED walls will also be installed for viewers’ convenience. In addition, a 20-minute multimedia projection mapping show will be organized.
ACS, Tourism, Culture and Religious Affairs Department, Amrit Abhijat stated, “Deepotsav-2026 will showcase such a combination of tradition and technology that will serve as a medium to connect Ayodhya’s cultural heritage with the new generation. Through technological innovations such as projection mapping, laser shows, aerial acts, live performances and Augmented Reality, the story of Lord Shri Ram’s arrival in Ayodhya will be presented in a new format. The ‘Visit My State’ campaign will also receive a boost. We endeavor to ensure that devotees and tourists visiting from across the country and the world return with a memorable experience of Ayodhya’s faith, culture and the grandeur of Deepotsav.”
