Delhi Police crack robbery case within hours, four accused arrested after more than 100 CCTV feeds analysed

New Delhi, May 11 (IANS) Delhi Police’s Shakarpur Police Station staff on Monday successfully solved a robbery case within hours of its registration and arrested four accused involved in the conspiracy, surveillance, and execution of the crime, officials said.

According to police officials, the breakthrough was achieved through intensive technical surveillance, extensive field investigation, and manual analysis of more than 100 CCTV cameras installed across the Delhi-6, ITO, Geeta Colony, and Laxmi Nagar routes.

The incident took place on May 9, when complainant Zubair Khan, a resident of Lal Kuan, was travelling towards the Ghazipur Fish Market on his scooty carrying Rs 1,16,000 in cash for business purposes. As per the complaint, after crossing the ITO near Geeta Colony Cut, he was intercepted by three men riding a motorcycle.

The accused allegedly attempted to stop him by kicking his moving scooty and threatening him with a knife. Fearing for his safety, the complainant fled from the spot. However, the accused allegedly robbed the cash kept in the dickey of the scooty before escaping.

Following the complaint, an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Shakarpur Police Station, and an immediate investigation was launched.

Considering the seriousness of the offence, a dedicated police team comprising SI Anubhav, HC Rahul, HC Anurag, Ct. Naveen, and Ct. Satyam was constituted under the close supervision of the SHO of Shakarpur Police Station and the overall supervision of ACP, Preet Vihar.

During the investigation, the police team meticulously examined CCTV footage from over 100 cameras installed along the suspected routes used by the accused. Through backward and forward trail analysis, investigators established the movement pattern of the suspects and traced the motorcycle used in the robbery.

Police identified the motorcycle registration number, which was registered in the name of the wife of the accused Arsh alias Arshad. Based on technical surveillance, local intelligence inputs, and sustained enquiries, police traced and apprehended Arsh.

During interrogation, police unearthed the entire conspiracy and identified the involvement of his associates, namely Fardeen alias Farhan, Manjeet Singh alias Manni, and Humam Khan. Subsequent raids led to the arrest of all the co-accused.

The accused persons have been identified as Arsh alias Arshad, 23, a resident of Vishwakarma Park, Laxmi Nagar; Fardeen alias Farhan, 22, a resident of Ramesh Park, Laxmi Nagar; Manjeet Singh alias Manni, 22, a resident of Sudhir Park, Shastri Park, Geeta Colony, and Humam Khan, 24, a resident of Ramesh Park, Delhi. Police said none of the accused had any previous criminal involvement.

Investigation further revealed that Humam Khan had earlier worked with the complainant at the Ghazipur Fish Market and allegedly harboured personal enmity against him. Police said he conspired with his associates to rob the complainant for financial gain. The accused allegedly conducted prior surveillance of the complainant’s daily movements and cash-carrying routine before choosing a relatively isolated location near Geeta Colony Cut to execute the crime.

Police recovered the motorcycle used in the offence, a scooty allegedly used during surveillance, clothes and slippers worn by the accused at the time of the incident, and mobile phones used during the conspiracy and execution of the robbery.

All four accused were produced before the court and sent to judicial custody. Police said further investigation regarding the recovery of the remaining robbed cash is underway.
