The role of the Revenue Department in Uttar Pradesh is no longer limited to maintaining land records. Under the Yogi government, special emphasis has been laid on providing rural families with documents for their residential properties, creating digital identities for farmers and simplifying the process of disbursing financial assistance.
According to official figures, more than 1.05 crore Gharaunis have been prepared and distributed in the state under the SVAMITVA Yojana. More than 1.44 crore registrations have also been completed under the Farmer Registry.
Before 2017, there had been no progress in initiatives such as Gharauni preparation and the Farmer Registry. Revenue services were primarily dependent on conventional records and office-based procedures. The Yogi government expanded these services and worked towards systematically maintaining records of rural properties and information related to farmers.
The preparation of Gharaunis under the SVAMITVA Yojana has emerged as a key initiative in rural revenue reforms. Through Gharaunis, residential properties in rural inhabited areas are identified and their records prepared.
According to the department, more than 1.05 crore Gharaunis have been prepared and distributed. This has helped rural families obtain documentary records of their residential properties.
The Farmer Registry has been expanded to make information related to farmers available on a single platform. More than 1.44 crore farmer registrations have been completed in the state, placing Uttar Pradesh first in the country in this regard.
Digital records can now facilitate the identification of farmers and verification of their eligibility for various agricultural schemes.
According to official figures, no progress had been made in establishing such a system before 2017. The current initiative is considered a significant step towards consolidating farmer-related information in one place.
Changes have also been introduced in the implementation of the Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojana. Earlier, the scheme was operated through an insurance company. Now, financial assistance is transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the District Magistrate. This has made the administrative process for disbursing assistance more direct.
To simplify the process of issuing caste certificates, provisions have also been introduced to link them with Aadhaar and reduce documentation requirements for other eligible family members once a certificate has been issued to one member of the family.
Meanwhile, public grievances are monitored and cross-checked at various levels through the IGRS to ensure their resolution. The Chief Minister’s Office also monitors the disposal of complaints.
