Lucknow: The ‘Double Engine’ government of Uttar Pradesh has been consistently working for the upliftment of women over the past seven years. In this direction, the Prime Minister’s Ujjwala Yojana has proven to be a very effective means of bringing light into the lives of half of the state’s population. Even in the homes of the poor, food is now cooked with safe fuel like LPG. In 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the Ujjwala Yojana from Ballia for this purpose. Under this scheme, free gas connections have been provided to 1.75 crore eligible families in Uttar Pradesh so far. This scheme has brought about a significant change in the lives of millions of mothers and sisters in the state by liberating them from smoke.
