Atanu Ghosh, a resident of Shibpur in Howrah district, has earned the moniker “Robot Man” for his relentless dedication to crafting robots with a noble mission.
His latest creation, “Bravo,” isn’t just an ordinary robot; it serves a distinctive role in supporting autistic children with their education and also fulfills important roles in awareness campaigns and as a restaurant waiter.
Ghosh’s motivation behind his remarkable work is straightforward: he aspires to contribute to society. His journey into robotics began years ago when he designed his first remote-controlled robot in 1979 at the age of 18. His father, who worked as a research equipment designer in Calcutta University’s Department of Physiology, served as his initial source of inspiration.
, Atanu Ghosh passionately shared his vision and commitment to his ongoing project. “Bravo” is an AI-controlled robot, developed over three months, which currently serves as a restaurant waiter, efficiently delivering food orders to diners’ tables.
However, Bravo’s purpose goes beyond the hospitality industry; it’s specifically designed to assist in the education of autistic children.
Ghosh elaborated, “This is my pilot project. In another two weeks, it will be complete. Bravo is an AI-controlled robot working as a waiter in a restaurant, serving food at customers’ tables. He can also perform similar tasks in the medical field. I was clear that Bravo should be created to assist in teaching autistic children.”
Despite his achievements, Atanu Ghosh has yet to receive formal support from government or non-government organizations. Nonetheless, he remains optimistic about potential future collaborations.
“I’ve constructed three robots at my own expense, and my intentions are solely for the public’s benefit. If the government or other institutions reach out to me, I’m more than willing to assist in creating robots like Bravo,” he affirmed.
Atanu Ghosh’s unwavering dedication to employing robotics for societal betterment has been evident. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he developed “Kritya,” a robot designed to aid doctors by delivering medications to COVID-19 patients.
“When the Covid pandemic hit, we created KRITYA (robot) to assist doctors, and now we’ve created BRAVO (robot) to aid autistic children,” Ghosh stated.
His commitment to innovation and societal advancement has given birth to his latest invention, “Bravo,” a robot with a heart and purpose, aimed at supporting autistic children and contributing to a better world, one invention at a time.
