Man dies soon after STF arrests him, probe on

Tried To Give Meds, But Cops Took Him Forcibly, Alleges Daughter

Lucknow: A 45-year-old man wanted in connection with a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) case died soon after he was arrested by the special task force (STF).

The accused, Ajay Singh alias Shakti Singh, resident of Lakhhara village in Pratapgarh, was arrested by STF on Sunday evening, right outside his residence. As soon as Singh was taken into custody and began his journey with the STF team, his health deteriorated rapidly. After he complained of chest pain, the STF personnel took him to Lalganj Trauma Centre.

However, Singh’s condition continued to worsen. He was subsequently transferred to the medical college but died before receiving further medical attention.

Singh’s family alleged that despite presenting hospital prescriptions and medicines, the STF failed to prioritise his health. It’s claimed that Singh was forcibly taken away, ultimately leading to his untimely demise.

Singh’s daughter, Janhvi Singh said that the police had arrived at 3.30 pm. “My father was arrested from home without any order or warrant. While taking my father, I tried to give his medical report and medicines to the police, but the police took him away without taking the medicines,” she alleged.

“We have got a written complaint in Sangipur police station against STF and it is being examined,” said SP Pratapgarh, Satpal Antil.

Singh was a heart patient and had undergone a surgery. He was wanted in a case of NDPS registered in Gomtinagar police station of Lucknow, said the officer.
