Man suffering from ulcer kills mother on suspicion of poisoning him

Man suffering from ulcerative colitis strangled his mother in a fit of rage

Lucknow: A 24-year-old man suffering from ulcerative colitis was arrested for allegedly strangling his mother in a fit of rage after learning from the internet that slow poison can cause ulcers and suspecting that his mother, who cooked for the family, was poisoning his food.

The accused, Ajay Singh, had completed MSc and was preparing for competitive examinations. He lived in a rented house with his parents in Prem Nagar. His father is a retired Army jawan and was not home at the time of the incident on Friday evening.

During interrogation, Ajay told police that after killing his mother, Chanda Devi (52), he called his elder brother, who is in the Army and currently posted in Gujarat, at 4am on Saturday and told him their mother had killed herself.

Suspecting Ajay’s claim, his brother immediately phoned their father, Madho Singh, and told him about the incident. Madho rushed home and after seeing his wife dead, he questioned Ajay who confessed to his crime. Madho then informed the police.

Senior superintendent of police (Dehradun) Ajay Singh, said, “Madho, a native of Champawat district, shifted to Dehradun with his wife in September last year. He works in the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, on contract. Ajay came to live with his parents in December last year. He took the extreme step after getting incomplete information from the internet.”

Senior sub-inspector Pramod Kumar said, “The accused is not of unsound mind. However, during investigation we came to know that his father, upset over his aggressive behaviour in the past, wanted to take him to a mental health professional but his mother had opposed it.”

“The body was handed over to the family after conducting the post-mortem and investigation is underway,” Kumar added.
