Indian snacks, like bhujias, chips, murukku, or jhal muri, hold a special place in the hearts of every Indian. They are an essential part of everyday life, whether enjoyed with a cup of evening chai or during celebrations. Bikaji Foods, established in the 1980s by Shri Shivratan Agarwal, has been spreading joy among Indians with its wide range of sweet and savory snacks. Shri Shivratan Agarwal introduced cutting-edge technology to create bhujias, making Bikaji one of the leading players in the market.
The Zeal for Authentic Indian Snacks
In the 1980s, Shri Shivratan Agarwal founded the brand Bikaji, driven by a passion for authentic Indian snacks. Determined to create a new identity and forge his own path, he embarked on a journey to find the best technology for manufacturing bhujias. When technology for mass-producing Bhujia was scarce, Shri Agarwal not only conducted global research to co-invent the best technology but also came up with a catchy name for the company that would resonate with customers.
The Birth of Bikaji
In 1986, Shuvdeep Food Products, a partnership business, was established. However, it was in 1993 that the Bikaji brand was introduced to the market. From the moment of its inception, Bikaji gained immense popularity. In 1994, it ventured overseas, exporting products to the UAE. As demand for Bikaji products continued to grow, Shivratan Agarwal decided it was time for Bikaji to have its independent identity. In 1995, the partnership was dissolved, and Bikaji became a public limited company.
Expanding Horizons
Bikaji’s popularity continued to spread, and in 1996, they began exporting their products to Australia. In 2006, Bikaji formed collaborations with three other groups to expand its business. The year 2008 marked a significant milestone when Bikaji opened its first store in Mumbai, called Bikaji Food Junction. Over the years, they raised funds and laid stronger foundations for their empire across India.
Bikaji now operates six manufacturing facilities: four in Bikaner, Rajasthan; one in Guwahati, Assam; one in Tumakuru, Karnataka, owned by their subsidiary Petunt Food Processors Private Limited; and one contract manufacturing unit in Kolkata, West Bengal. Additionally, they have a presence in Mumbai, where they manage restaurant sales.
Bikaji, derived from Bika Rao, the founder of Bikaner, is a symbol of respect in India. Shri Agarwal’s goal was to introduce the world to the taste of ‘Aslee Parampara’—genuine Indian flavors that reflect India’s culture and beliefs. Over the years, Bikaji has harnessed the power of ethnic cuisine to win hearts worldwide. With a diverse range of products and innovative packaging, Bikaji remains committed to sharing authentic Indian flavors with the world.
