The Monsoon Session of Parliament will begin from today amidst ongoing tussle between the Central Government and the Opposition on several issues including Manipur violence, price rise, Delhi ordinance. The opposition is preparing to corner the government on these issues. Government ready for discussion on Manipur
After the all-party meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said the government is ready to discuss all issues, including Manipur, in the monsoon session, provided they are approved by the Speaker and within the rules. At the same time, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary of Congress said that clapping is done with both hands and if the government wants the proceedings of the Parliament to run smoothly, then it will have to accept the demands of the opposition.
Speaking to the media, Joshi said that all parties are demanding a discussion on Manipur. The Government is ready to hold a discussion on the issue of Manipur whenever the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha fix a date and time. Asked about the opposition’s demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on the Manipur issue, Joshi said, “When the government is ready for a discussion, such a demand is tantamount to threatening to disrupt Parliament.” He also clarified that the Union Home Ministry is the nodal ministry on the issue of the North Eastern States.
