National Tribal Festival to be held in UP from November 23, Yogi government busy with preparations

Yogi government is preparing to organize a national-level Tribal Festival in UP to bring India’s tribal culture, folk arts, traditional crafts, and cuisine together on a single platform. Proposed in view of Tribal Pride Day, the event may feature around 470 artists from 16 states, along with about 150 artisans and people specializing in traditional cuisine.

The festival will offer a glimpse into tribal traditions from different parts of the country. Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh reviewed preparations on Wednesday and discussed issues related to participant involvement, cultural exchange, the venue, and coordination among various departments. He directed that the event be celebrated with great grandeur and divinity.

Tribal Pride Day is observed every year on November 15 to mark the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. As part of the festival season, the National Tribal Festival will be organized in Lucknow from November 23 to 26. UP Darshan Park, Gomti Riverfront, and Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi are among the proposed venues for the festival. The event will provide a platform for tribal art, culture, traditional crafts and cuisine from different states across the country.

Around 470 artists from 16 states are planned to participate in the festival. Through their performances, the festival will present tribal art, folk dances, music, and cultural traditions from different regions of the country to audiences. In addition, the festival plans to include around 150 artisans and people associated with traditional cuisine. This will allow visitors to better understand the lifestyles, skills, and cuisine of tribal communities. The event’s objective is not limited to cultural performances alone; it also provides a wider platform for communities that have preserved these traditions and skills for generations.

A proposal has been made to set up 10 TRIFED stalls at the festival to showcase tribal products. These stalls are intended to bring tribal community products to the public. This will give visitors a chance to explore tribal crafts and products alongside cultural programs and traditional cuisine. The event will give artists and artisans a platform to build recognition for their work and reach a wider audience. In this way, the festival is also being viewed as an opportunity to showcase tribal heritage while promoting the livelihoods and skills of the people associated with it.

The possibility of designating one state as the festival’s theme state was also discussed. Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat have emerged as options. The Directorate of Culture is also exploring participation through agreements it has already entered into with other states. Selecting a theme state will give special prominence to that state’s tribal art and traditions. Alongside this, plans are underway to promote dialogue and exchange among artists and cultural groups from different states.

A proposal has been made to invite artists from Nepal and Sri Lanka to give the festival an international character. In addition, the committee is exploring the participation of foreign cultural groups available in India at the time of the event. Preliminary discussions have already taken place with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) on this matter. If the proposed participation is finalized, the festival may also offer an opportunity to witness cultural performances from neighboring countries alongside Indian tribal traditions.

A proposal has been made to constitute a coordination committee comprising the relevant departments and institutions to organize festival preparations and participant-related arrangements. The committee will coordinate the event’s framework, participation by various states, and other essential arrangements. The committee is currently finalizing the venue and the final program. Through the proposed festival, preparations are underway to present the country’s tribal art, crafts, cuisine, and cultural traditions on a national platform in Uttar Pradesh.
