Oommen Chandy Death: Former Kerala CM and senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy passed away on Tuesday (July 18). He was also seen in Bharat Jodo Yatra with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The relatives of Kerala Congress President K Sudhakaran and Chandy shared the information about his death on Tuesday. Oommen Chandy, who was called a veteran Congress leader, was 79 years old
K Sudhakaran tweeted, “The story of the king who conquered the world with the power of ‘love’ has a poignant ending.” Today, I am deeply saddened by the passing away of a legend, Oommen Chandy. He touched the lives of countless individuals and his legacy will forever echo in our souls.
His son informed about the death of a senior Congress leader. He wrote on Oommen Chandy’s Facebook page that Appa is no more. Oommen Chandy, who was the CM of Kerala twice, breathed his last on Tuesday in Bengaluru. According to information, Chandy, who was ill for a long time, was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bengaluru.

On his death, the Kerala Congress said that Oommen Chandy was loved by all generations and all sections of the population. The Kerala Congress tweeted, “It is very sad to bid farewell to our dearest leader and former CM. Oommen Chandy was one of the most popular and unique leaders of Kerala. Chandy Sir was loved by all generations and classes of people. The Congress family will miss his leadership and energy.
Oommen Chandy was the Chief Minister of Kerala twice from 2004-06 and 2011-16. The veteran Congress leader began his tenure as an MLA by winning the 1970 state assembly elections at the age of 27. He later won 11 consecutive elections since then. Chandy represented only his home constituency Puthuppally in the last five decades.
