Islamabad: Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has exposed a high profile network of drug smuggling in India. This network was being operated by none other than underworld don Mazhar Iqbal, head of the Anti-Narcotics Wing of Lahore Police. Officials said the network led by Mazhar Iqbal used drones to smuggle drugs, especially heroin, into India. According to police investigation, the drone used by Mazhar Iqbal’s network used to carry up to 6 kg of drugs and after flying across the border, delivered the consignment to Punjab. Pakistan police said it hoped to capture other members of Iqbal’s network in Lahore.
The busting of the network was announced by Pakistani Rangers last week. The Rangers claimed to have arrested six Indians inside Pakistani territory for allegedly trying to smuggle “narcotics, arms and ammunition”. Four of the arrested smugglers, Gurmeet Singh, Shinder Singh, Juginder Singh and Vishal Jagga, are from Firozpur in Punjab, while Ratan Pal Singh and Garvender Singh are from Jalandhar and Ludhiana respectively.
Officials said that action has been initiated against Mazhar Iqbal after interrogating the arrested Indians. However, the authorities were not able to arrest him as he had taken bail before his arrest.
