School bus runs over rly apprentice

Lucknow: A 22-year-old apprentice in the Indian Railways was run over by a school bus in Indiranagar on Monday. The bus driver fled after the accident.

Commuters and locals who were angry over the death in the accident created a ruckus. The victim’s family has lodged an FIR against the unidentified driver of the school bus at Indiranagar police station.

Police said that the deceased, Sanju (22) was a resident of Pratapnagar and was an apprentice with the loco workshop in Alambagh. His mother Nasreen is a class IV employee in a private school in Gomtinagar.

“Sanju was returning home on a scooter after dropping his mother at the school between 6 and 7 am on Monday. The driver of a private school bus ran over his scooter near a private hospital in Lavkushnagar, Indiranagar Sector-25,” said the police.

Due to the impact of the collision, Sanju fell down and came under the rear wheels of the bus. He died on the spot, said the police, based on the accounts of the eyewitnesses.

The locals got angry over the accident and created a ruckus. They alleged that there was no control over the speed of school buses, said the police.

Later, on information, senior police officers reached the spot, pacified the locals and assured them of stern action against the errant driver.

DCP North, Qasim Abidi said Sanju’s brother Ravi filed an FIR under relevant charges. Police are trying to trace the bus driver from the CCTVs installed nearby.

Eyewitnesses said that the bus driver was on the way to pick up children in Indiranagar. He overtook Sanju’s scooter to reach early.
